<8618510985516>Hello everyone, I'm Francis, a recent returnee from France who just started his career in a national engineering company in Beijing. I find my cultural adaptation both in Europe and China an extremely enriching experience. In this event, I would like to discuss with all of you two types of culture shocks: outbound culture shock and inbound culture shock (or reverse culture shock). The former designates a a sense of confusion and uncertainty felt by expatriates, and the latter, the feeling they have when they return home. As a matter of fact, adaptability of individuals to different cultures and countries is a challenge to be dealt with in the growing years. You are all warmly welcome to share your experience and understanding on these two types of culture shocks! :) The more, the merrier!I chose the topic "culture shock" from simple intuition when Alex asked me to be the host only two days prior to the event. :) It is a challenge I have dealt with both in Europe and China, with success and a satisfying learning curve. In addition, considering the multiculturalism of the PET community, this topic may let many participants speak up their mind, as it was the case on Wednesday night.I was particularly intrigued when a lady said at the beginning that she doesn't feel much culture shock from her experience since she remarks the universality of humanity, and as I completed later: we all wish to pursue love, enjoy what we do, protect our loved ones and earn a good living. I also appreciated a gentleman's statement at the end on culture intelligence. I reckon it is also partly with culture intelligence that we can remain undefeated by artificial intelligence. As a host, I felt a bit nervous at the beginning since I couldn't grasp the general atmosphere very well (many new comers) and I didn't have much time for preparation. However, as the event went on, I became more and more confident and energetic, thank you my dear PET community! What I learnt the most from this event is to be always confident and friendly no matter the situation, especially with a huge number of participants and a situation not necessary easy to control. I was also overwhelmed by my old and new friends' enthusiasm, with their diverse and rich sharing. Hopefully I can have more opportunities to host PET events, with more time for preperation! :DHost / 分享人✨Francis the Polyglot😇 / EngineerI just came back from Paris, France to start my career in a national engineering company. I speak fluent English, French, Italian, Mandarin and Cantonese. I hope to know more about Beijing and Chinese working culture.
