I was kind of nervous, for it was the first time for me to be a hostess. Luckily, Tony was there and he had some experience of being a host. He told me all I had to do was to stay calm and everything would be fine and it was.
When we started, it seemed that everyone was a bit shy and reserved. However, as time went by, people got to know more about their group members and began to share more. The highlight was when a guy said the happiest and most exciting moment for him was spent in a hospital where his baby was born. Happiness was infectious and everyone began to cheer for him. And also a girl shared that she had a lousy year last year and wished she could turn it around this year. We all have many fears and sorrows. In seeing how similar they are, we gain strength. It was also a good chance for everyone there to meet people from all walks of life. There were lawyers, stock brokers, students, accounts and people from other occupations. By listening to their stories, we get to know more about how other people are living their life and probably can get a clue about how we want to live our own life.
In sharing, we grow. That’s what this English corner is all about.
